Mole Matters

Yes, I got my mole removed.

If you haven't seen my face, it's the one screaming at you below my nose.

I got mixed reactions from people. Some of my friends are wondering why I got my "trademark" thing (?) removed. My sisters are happy that it's finally gone. Me ... I don't know. I am glad because finally no one will poke fun at it anymore (though it wasn't really a big deal to me), and it does kinda look silly, being located just below my right nostril; appearing like a booger on many unfortunate occasions.

(Not so) Fun Fact: This mole was photoshopped off my face on both my high school and college graduation pictures.

On the other hand, my mole was something that people identified me with (need I say more?). Without it, I'm just mole-less Nicole. Lol.

Today is very a bittersweet moment for my mole and I. After 20 years of partnership (??), we say goodbye to each other.

It looks pretty gross if you look at it closely.

My dermatologist placed it in a vial for posterity. It now sits on a table in my room.

I love mail. Whether sending a simple card or receiving a college prospectus (exception: billing statements), I always get a wee bit excited when I get --and send mail. Snail mail is something that will never go out of style, even at the dawn of modern mailing technologies such as the email (not to mention e-cards, which I kinda not understand, lol), as local post offices continue to exist. I guess it's because snail mail is more personal, you know, it makes you think/feel that someone really took the time and effort to write, to wrap, to buy stamps,--to send this thing for you, and just the thought of that is simply heartwarming.

Why am I babbling about mail... well I just got my purchase from Romwe.com and I'm so happy!

For the visually impaired (and I apologize for the ~~somewhat~~ shitty photo), that is a sheer blouse. I'm loving the print and style PLUS I got it at a discounted price so...yay! :)

Spring is here. Well, for some it is. Cool, summery-ish prints are back in season, thus reviving the colored, floral and graphic-printed pants. While I was never a big fan of printed bottoms (except for skirts, which I rarely wear), this season's release of trendy detailed jeans are making me think twice.

Thinking of whether or not to invest in one (my wallet says NOOOOO!). But spending too much on something that's only hot this season is a no-no, so I'm hoping I could find one at a moar reasonable price..soon.

9 & 10. Soooo I may have kinda cheated on my peanut butter cake. I used Betty Crocker's Yellow cake mix and just added peanut butter to it (see the recipe here!). [I was supposed to make cupcakes but I left the cupcake pan at our office. -_-]

The two-day weekend is just never enough for anyone. Hope yours is a productive one, unlike mine. :P

Being online 95% of the time takes you to places-- websites -- ONLINE STORES! you've never been to. That being said, here's a little list (because I love making lists!) of stuff I've stumbled upon browsing so many fashion blogs/online shopping sites. Totally irrelevant but I just want to put this here as a reminder (to myself) that I have no money.

Marc by Marc Jacobs ankle boots. UGH. I bought a pair of combat boots last year and only wore them once (because its length made my legs look fat -_- and kinda goofy. Sigh) so I don't know why now I'm drawn to ankle boots... Guessing it's because the style is a bit more appropriate for the climate here .... or maybe I just want a pair of ankle boots HAHA.

Alexander Wang Prisma tote. I've seen this on Julie Sarinana (of sincerelyjules.com) and totally fell in love with it. Not sure if I'll be able to purchase one soon though. See here

Yesterday my sister and I had snacks (understatement of the week!) at Mom and Tina's, a bakery cafe somewhere along Katipunan. CAN I JUST SAY I'M IN LOVE WITH THE FOOD HAHA. What a great way to end the weekend.

I met up with a friend last Sunday who taught me how to "operate" (/use the manual controls of) my camera. The whole week I've been snapping photos of random things, yet it seems that I have not picked up anything from my mini crash course in photography. Lulz. Yesterday I finally had the courage to bleach (half of) my hair.. only to be DISAPPOINTED by the orangey outcome.

Kidding (DUH!). Here's what it actually looks like now:

The Instagram filter made it more orange-y than it actually is. I have no idea why my hair didn't go totally blonde LIKE I EXPECTED/IMAGINED IT TO BE, but my hunch is that I didn't use the right concentration of peroxide (..pretending to know stuff about bleaching) or something... Also I think I put too much bleach powder in the "mixture" (the lady from the store told me to just put half of what's inside the pack.. maybe I kinda overdid it O_O).

So now I have super dry (and not to mention: damaged) hair pretending to be blonde. Le sigh. I was thinking of bleaching the top portion of my hair as well or dye the top part darker to MAYBE turn it into a somewhat ombre-ish look, but let me just say that I'm too sad to move on from this *devastating incident* so nevermind. Probably I'll have it done professionally in two months, when my hair isn't feeling so sad and my wallet isn't feeling too mad hoho. My dreams of looking like an American (haha) are once again crushed. /wrist

Why I love her (and why you should too):

A great journalist. In my opinion, different from the journalist stereotype. Her reporting style is so sincere, it's impossible not to feel things(!).
She is brave enough to report stories from different 'creepy' places and puts a lot of heart into it.
She stays grounded. When passed over as co-anchor for the show when Katie Couric left in 2006, she didn't act all bitter and bitchy cause she wasn't given the position. Instead, she focused on bringing more newsworthy stories like the conflict in Darfur, the earthquake that shook Haiti, etc.
She's also a photographer (a good one, if I may say so).

Again, let me reiterate that my fashion palate isn't varied (i.e. it ~~kinda~~ sucks) so it would probably take an eternity before I place an 'outfit post' here.

Let me make this clear: I am not fashionable. Though I enjoy the occasional splurging on clothes and "dressing up", chances are you will run into me wearing a ratty old shirt, my super used denim shorts and flip flops (exposing my un-pedicured nails-EEEK!). Probably because my daily routine does not entail dressing fabulously, and my closet is just full of ratty old shirts. Boo-hoo. #sarcasm

To illustrate: You want to buy this bag, brand X. Brand X is sadly not available now. Either you wait for the store to restock on Brand X bags or you get the available Brand Y, which, in your opinion seems as great as Brand X. "Getting Brand Y" is your Plan B.

Moving on, a "Plan B" is essentially important in life, as it gives you another option, something to look forward to, to hold on to, to hope for, once your main plan falters.

But what if you don't have a Plan B? Or worse, what if you don't have a plan in life at all!? (GASP!)

Why you should eat out

Eating here at our place is a stressful event. There is always, always something wrong with everything; and every meal is never complete without any/all of these phrases mentioned:

The pork/meat/chicken is not "fresh"
Stop buying frozen meat!
The soup is too cold.
The fish is "malangsa"
What is this? Hindi ako kumakain nito.
I don't like the maid. Fire her/them.

Which is why I've come to the realization that eating out is the best solution....for everything.

Why:

Good food
Someone cooks for you
Someone will clean after you
There's that possibility of having leftovers....meaning moar food for tomorrow!

Side note: Recently ate at the first PF Chang's in Asia ("Ooooooh"). Great food. But located so very far from civilization. ಥ_ಥ

I'm thinking of getting a camera for meself. You know, try out photography as a hobby and shit. Also because I could use one when I go travelling (chyeah like I travel a lot. Hell to the no). I took pictures using a cellphone on my first trip abroad...how sad is that? :|

But just a simple point and shoot camera though, not those DSLR things. My mind is not ready to handle such complicated (AND EXPENSIVE) equipment lolol. I've skimmed through tons of online reviews of different brands and models looking for the right one (with the right price of course) and decided to go with the Panasonic Lumix LX5. Maybe I'll get it in a few months so that's something to look forward to. K whatevs.

Also something to look forward to: Credit card debt.

A part of me does not want to take the board exam. I don't want to study for it. I knew that I was through with studying the moment I finished my thesis defense (and yet I want to take up a course in journalism. Hmm). Besides, I'm not even planning to pursue a career in teaching, so why bother right?

I honestly don't know.

My friends-slash-fellow education majors insist that I take the exam with them, saying I could use the bragging rights (being a licensed teacher and such), but all that effort I'm going to exert will be worthless because, let me reiterate, I am nowhere near any pursuit in becoming the world's greatest teacher.

But I have had some (okay..maybe a lot of) teachers who are board-certified (I do hope they are) and they suck. Which is an understatement. Now I'm really skeptic about going for the board exam.

Geez, maybe I'm just looking for reasons not to do it. So maybe I won't. Then again, there's nothing wrong with trying. I don't know. Whatever.

Resolutions

Happy new year folks!

I decided not to post the update I made last night (/last year, for lulz) because it seemed too ...negative. 2011 was shite (except for the first two months), so I was quite pleased that it already ended. Now it's the first day of the new year, so I'm trying my very best to be optimistic about the things to come.

I wonder how long this optimism will last though.

New year's resolutions are for schmucks, so I'm just making a list of what I should try to accomplish this year. (Haha that just sounded like a stupid version of what a new year's resolution is)

Save moar (laaame)
Get into journalism school or some s/t
Catch up on my writing
"Go somewhere foreign"
Read moar books!
Update this thing on a regular basis

Not your most interesting list of shit to do, but I hope and pray to God that I accomplish all of those....because I've been trying to for the past 934209309808232802 years. O_o

The things you own end up owning you

I need to learn how to control my desires.

(Is it just me or did that statement sound kind of....weird ?)

The insignificant amount of money I make is most certainly not enough to sustain my never ending desire to purchase things I want (/do not need). Most people I know face the same problem, and they all use different coping mechanisms (thinking of an excellent example to put here..wait for it) to fill that void.

Filling a void. People use retail therapy to replace whatever it is they lack in their life: companionship, confidence, sex (really?!), you name it. Which, in the end, and as we can see from all the hoarding-themed shows emerging, does not seem so fulfilling after all.

Lately I have been nearing my budget limit, and I have come to realize that some of the things I bought (which are mostly clothes) aren't necessarily things my life depended on. Whoops.

[Side note: Don't make regular trips to Forever 21.]

Okay. First step to recovery is acceptance. So I must promise not to buy trivial things until 2012...

Hopefully not on the first week though; don't want to start my year wrong lol.

I want to drown myself in books. Reading is one of the things I find therapeutic (aside from watching television. Yes television series ~~can be~~ are healing). Like immersing yourself in another world, living somebody else's life and discovering something- new, intriguing, motivating, whatever.

I've been thinking about buying myself books for Christmas BUT my wallet is screaming in financial pain. Books aren't as affordable as a fattening snack (goddammit!), so I can't buy all the titles I want.

Well that's just depressing.

So I'll just share what I've been meaning to buy....hoping someone would be kind enough to give them to me as a gift (hint hint).

With everyone gaining access to the world wide web, creating your own blog/personal space on the online is a no-brainer. Which is great, if you ask me. It's like taking dear old diary to a whole new level. BUT, nobody gives a rat's ass about what I do (in, with) my life, so why should I bother to document every boring detail of it?

Makes me wonder now, what makes a blog interesting and what makes it a bag full of horseshit?

Sometimes I feel like an ungrateful little shithead for always complaining about random things. There are bigger problems to complain about. But I can't help but notice a lot of things and get pissed off easily.

I notice that I put a lot of "I's" on my posts/shit I write (there are four I's on that sentence, five if you count the one included in this parenthesis). It bothers me. Is my excessive use of the pronoun I an indicator of my selfishness? OR does it just simply tell us that my grammar sucks?

Now I'm noticing an excessive use of "my".

about studying journalism. I made a big mistake not opting for such course when I applied for college. Now I feel like a complete tool not knowing what to do with my degree.

Nonetheless I have the highest respect for the teaching profession and all those in it (except myself). Its just that, I came to the conclusion somewhere along those four years that I wasn't really fit to do it. Having the responsibility of instilling knowledge to these young (and not so innocent) students is too overwhelming for me.

So why journalism?

I find myself inspired by a lot of great journalists. They make a difference every day simply by delivering the news; and I want to do just that. Hopefully. I want to be like Ann Curry, who is so dedicated in what she does, putting a lot of heart and passion in her work. Her genuineness and sincerity as a person shines, which, in my opinion, what makes her appear like a gem on television. Ahhh.

But with my rusty writing abilities and poor English skills, would I be able to make it?

Not losing weight

I gained weight after my trip to the States last December. I graduated, stopped commuting, sat on my ass all day at work (in short! lack of exercise) and continued my gluttonous ways so I became a fat whore. I can't stop myself from eating. Right now I am fighting the urge to finish 3 pounds of chocolate covered almonds strategically placed behind my laptop. Why. Why can't I control my eating!?

2 reasons why I'm a pig:

I have a lot of feelings
I eat my feelings

I don't think I'd be able to lose weight this year, sooo I'm adding it to my list of things to achieve by 2012 (because I love making lists and not doing anything in it). My sister is getting married next year (or next next year, whatever.) so I don't want to look like a Chinese sausage on my bridesmaids dress.

K just wanted to rant about my fat ass.

is taking very too long. I mean I'm taking too long to decide on what I want to do with my life. Wait, do I even have any options? Look at me, I'm 20, with a bachelor's degree in something I thought I wanted four years ago, and wasting my youth on high-calorie processed food products and refreshing my Tumblr every 15 minutes (okay I kinda enjoy that one). You'd probably say "Get a job you fat slob" but sadly I already have one so just can it. Truth is, I can't find a decent job elsewhere because apparently I do not seem appealing as a prospective employee (That was put nicely). Except for call centers. Somehow, my pristine *not* student credentials can only land me a spot as a call center agent. I am not belittling the BPO industry, please do not get me wrong. It's just that I am so frustrated that I cannot even get myself to work as a humble assistant for a certain company. Which gets me thinking, am I not yet good enough to work? If I say at a job interview that I am "very hardworking", do they immediately notice a twitch in my left eye? Maybe I should study (some more, again ?) to get people to take me seriously? But studying again means investing (should I say gambling?) another how many thousands of pesos....and for what again exactly? I mean, if my undergrad degree is not able to "take me places", what makes me so sure that a master's degree will?

I wish someone told me to get my shit together when I was in high school; to pursue a course which I really enjoy doing. I would have, well, got my shit together. Maybe someone did, I wasn't just listening. Are people really crazy enough to entrust a fifteen year old to make life changing decisions? Hell, I couldn't even solve a flipping algebra problem at that time (...until now).

Well whatever. I'm stuck with the endpoint of a poor decision so I just have to suck it and find something for me to be. Which is still, nothing. I'm at a dead end.

You cannot force anyone to live by your rules in life. If, in your opinion, your friend is a double-crossing, cheating, slut-faced ho bag, you cannot force her to become a pious virgin like you. You can, however, tell your friend about the disadvantages of "whoring around"-slash-breaking people's fragile hearts, how it can negatively affect her life (think about STDs!), friendships (think about the people you'll trample on!) and overall image as a person. You do not become mad at the person simply because she does not choose to do (what for you is) the right thing. You do not go bitching on the internet and airing private information that your friend specifically told you not to tell anyone. As a friend, the only thing you can do is support her actions and be there when things become shitty (which, hopefully does not happen). As a friend, the important thing you have done is that you warned her, and told her explicitly that what she is doing is absolutely senseless and inhumane. What else can you do? You tell me.

I've had a few blogs during high school; mostly consisting of pointless rants about "how my life sucks" and "how I hate doing papers/schoolwork", blah. I stopped when I was in second year college, after realizing how bad and irrelevant my posts were. Fast forward to two years later, I found that my old url still exists and I still remember my Blogger account password, so I decided to begin (or continue?) documenting my misadventures in life. The main reason is that I need to exercise my writing "skills" (do I even have writing skills?) at least once in a while because I'm getting lamer and lamer by the millisecond plus my grammar is getting worse (was it at any point 'good'?). Hopefully this time, my posts will be more substantial than before. Which I highly doubt. Na na na na na na na na na.
